Candy?

Two very smart and 6th grade girls thought about something that most adults would on a normal basis just let it be. How alike looking are candy and some perscription pills? A scaled down adult version of a experiment done by these girls concluded that most adults have trouble deciding which is which, but children that can't read have the most trouble deciding which is candy and what could possibly hurt them.

I don't know about anyother parent out there but i have a fair amount of perscription medicine in my bathroom, and the thought that my daughter could potentially find a way to get to them and think they are candy scares me to no end. I recently went through and looked at the ones i have in my bathroom and low and behold they almost all looked to me like some kind or another candy. This is a scary thought. You would think after so many years of looking at the fact that children cant read and don't really know the diffence that drug manufacures would make the pills look unsavory or at least a little less like candy. Maybe these girls are on to something and might be able to make a difference for the lives of some children out there.

  1. I agree with what you have said. I have not thought about the fact that many pills do appear as candy, especially to a young child. It scares me too to think about a young child getting into a medicine cabinet and being able to hurt themselves. I will have to be extra careful if I have children so day to be sure and put all medicine in a safe spot.

  2. Just this summer my husband's little cousin took some of her mom's medicine because she thought it was candy and we ended up rushing her to the ER. Sometimes the truth is scary, and I agree that manufacturers should have seen and fixed this a long time ago. However, candy is appealing and they want their medicines to look appealing as well. So, unfortunately, the resemblances probably won't change too soon.
