Text Nation

On average the percentage of cell phone users that prefer receiving a text instead of a phone call is one third of the nation. That is high compared to other methods of being contacted. Teens text the most out of cell phone owners, but as for the adults who own cell phones the percentage is still staggering.

I own a cell phone and I do prefer to be texted more so that a phone call. It gives me more time to review my options and make a decision or answer with better judgement and also to not be hasty. There are bonuses for text messaging rather than a phone call or conversation. In the same breath there are downfalls to it also. For example when you have a conversation you get body language and facial expressions to go along with the conversation. When you have a phone call you don't get those things but you also don't have always have the ample amount of time to come to a good decision or at least an educated one. With text messaging you have time to reflect and think about what you are going to say and say it in a way that reflects your meaning. It is a great resource also for those that don't think before they speak and get themselves in pickles.

  1. I totally agree with you. I would rather be contacted by text message. You don't have to worry about awkward pauses in conversations and if you have a quick question its the best way to communicate. However, its easy to get the wrong impression about what someone is saying. Not being able to hear the tone of voice with a sentence can put off the wrong message.
